Twickenham Station
As the practice’s second built scheme for Solum Regeneration, a joint venture between Network Rail Property and Kier Construction, Twickenham Station forms the centrepiece of the wider redevelopment of land adjacent to, and above, the existing railway.
The new station is located on a new deck spanning the rail cutting and has created a generous, double height entrance building along with new lift and stair connections to the platforms below. It also incorporates a generous new station forecourt as the main access and interchange point for both local and regional public transport networks.
The station’s design allows it to perform efficiently as a well-used suburban commuter station, but to also adapt to the major flows associated with national and international sporting events.
The station management team, RFU match day advisors and British Transport Police were all closely involved through all design stages to ensure that congestion and security issues associated with large scale events are fully integrated in the design. It was completed in 2020.
