Cheadle Hulme

Landolt + Brown has been appointed to develop designs for four station upgrade sites to the south of Manchester by LCR, working in partnership with Network Rail, Northern, and Transport for Greater Manchester. Each site is part of the Government’s initiative to develop brownfield sites in sustainable locations adjacent to rail stations; in each instance land is freed up to facilitate new housing-led development alongside upgrade of station buildings with improved accessibility, green transport provisions and surface transport interchange. Groupings of community-focused facilities and local retail uses will capitalise on each station’s place-making potential, as well as improving conditions for passengers.

At Cheadle Hulme, a new station square will provide a high-quality public realm allowing for more direct intermodal interchange, flanked by multi-purpose commercial spaces for community uses, cafés, and convenience stores. An adjacent new and fully accessible ticket office with cycle parking facilities will contribute to an improved travel experience and help promote the station square as a community destination. Landolt + Brown played a key role in the co-ordination of complex rail and transport requirements within the masterplan.

Following successful pre-application consultations, development briefs have now been established for the sites and tenders invited from potential development partners, with Landolt + Brown continuing to play a key consultation role in co-ordination of the developments with Network Rail.
