Ilkley Green Transport Hub
This project, led by a local community group in Ilkley, North Yorkshire will create a new green transport hub adjacent to Ilkley railway station, transforming a large, characterless asphalt bus station and commuter parking into a vibrant new arrival and departure point for the historic town centre. This will cater for the large numbers of visitors arriving from Leeds and Bradford and heading to the Dales, as well as Ilkley itself.
The footprint of the bus station is being reduced without loss of bus capacity to create a much larger area of high quality public realm including for new tree planting and drought-resistant, biodiverse swales to improve rainwater run-off. A new string of single-storey pavilion buildings sitting alongside the rail platforms will provide spaces for a visitor information office, public WC’s, a combined bus and rail waiting room, secure cycle parking and EV charging points.
The project is a joint initiative between Friends of Ilkley Station, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Bradford City Council, Network Rail and Northern Rail.
